The Greg Krino Show

Vietnam and the Secret Air War Over Cambodia | O-2 Rustic Pilot, Robert Harris

Greg Krino Season 1 Episode 98

Robert "Redeye" Harris is a veteran of the Vietnam War.  He flew O-2 Skymasters as a Forward Air Controller (FAC) over Cambodia - a top secret operation between the US and Cambodian Army, which intended to prevent the North Vietnamese from using the Ho Chi Minh Trail to supply their troops in the south. The first third of the episode is about Robert's training, the second is about the missions that resulted in the awarding of two Distinguished Flying Crosses (DFC), and around 1:12 into the episode he talks about his work with the Cambodian Army. You can follow Robert and his fellow O-2 pilots -the "Rustics" - at NightRustics.org, and you can purchase the book about the Rustics called, "The Rustics: A Top Secret Air War in Cambodia." Royalties from sales help support orphanages in Cambodia.
